Social Opportunities

Israel in English Book Club

There are many ways to acclimate to a new society and culture, this book club learns about Israel through the writings of Israeli authors.  By reading books, usually translations into English of Hebrew publications*, the newer anglo members of Kehilat Nitzanim are gaining insights and understandings of their new home and the unique Israeli approach to everything.  We invite any women, who enjoy reading and chatting in English, to join us a few times a year in conversation.

Send a message to Leora at Leemail526@gmail to receive the Israel in English Book Club emails

*We invite our friends who read in Ivrit to read the same titles in the original, affording us a shared interest that traverses language barriers!

Books we have read so far:

Men's Basketball League

Kehilat Nitzanim fields a team for the Synagogue Basketball League which is run under the auspices of the Jerusalem Municipality. Male members of Kehilat Nitzanim, ages 21 and over are welcome to participate, with games usually taking place on Thursday nights. Kehilat Nitzanim’s team has a great track record and who knows, maybe you’ll be the next star who helps bring home the Kugel, the prize component more cherished than the actual winner’s trophy!!

Conversational Hebrew

Facilitated by the delightful Zofia Karni, a veteran Israeli educator and member of Kehilat Nitzanim, this group practises their spoken Hebrew in a relaxed, supportive environment. Meeting weekly at the Bet Knesset, the chance to put Ulpan lessons into action in a less pressure-filled setting than a grocery or hardware store, is appreciated by members of Kehilat Nitzanim who are still refining their Ivrit.
